About the Organization
In 1937, a group of Mamaroneck citizens founded the "Old Town of Mamaroneck Historical Society" with the objective of preserving the history of their village. The Society remained active until 1954, mainly working to preserve important historic landmarks and artifacts. Upon the bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution in 1976, a group of citizens reactivated the organization, amending the name to "The Mamaroneck Historical Society." From that day on, the society continued in its efforts to uphold and illuminate the heritage, tradition and culture of Mamaroneck's past.
Programs
The continued mission of the Mamaroneck Historical Society is to bring research, education and interest in our local heritage to the greater Mamaroneck community. To this day, the society has kept this mission in mind by developing a wide range of outreach programs covering regional, as well as, local topics, our award winning television series Time and Again and the celebrated Down Memory Lane programs have solid appeal to our Town's diverse community.
In addition to relocating and restoring our 1816 schoolhouse, we have embarked on a mission to bring our citizens a top notch research facility. These current projects, as well as being the lead historical society in the founding of the Regional Sound Shore Historical Coalition, establish us as a renowned advocacy group for preservation efforts throughout the county.
